KAL-EZ Coat, Part 5, Final
The KAL is coming to an end. There are several knitters who are still working on their final product, but most have completed their fronts and collars. All the coats are looking fantastic.
  • As the front panels are knitted, both edges should have a phoney reversible seam, three stitches in from the edge. Make sure you drop and do the phoney seams before attaching at the shoulder.
  • We chose to do the garter stitch kitchner stitch to finish the back of the collar.
  • It was unclear as to where to place the decreases for the sleeves once beginning to knit in the round. I called Schoolhouse Press and spoke with Cully and Meg. It is "Knitter's Choice" as to placing the decreases on either side of the phoney seam or to place them on the underside of the sleeve. Meg did her version by placing them on either side of the seam, and I did mine on the underside.

Some did not think they wanted to do the phoney seam down the sleeves. I think the seam looks very nice, and it is not as prominent as the reversible seams placed throughout the sweater.
EZ Coat Phoney Seam

All-in-all, this was a great project; and I intend to make another coat in the near future. When I asked our knitters what they learned from the project, the main thing was "patience." There were several new techniques that they learned, but patience to stop and check what they were doing was the top of the list. Elizabeth writes her patterns literally; and for some folks, it is difficult for them to follow. Some need each row written out, and I encourage you to do that when you are unsure.
